Specifically, we will review what FormulaWP does for you, what responsibilities you have, what options you have in how and when updates are performed, and what are the best practices you should follow when performing any of the various types of updates. We will also discuss what steps should be taken in the rare event that an update causes something on your website to malfunction.[/cs_text][/cs_column][/cs_row][/cs_section][cs_section parallax=”false” separator_top_type=”none” separator_top_height=”50px” separator_top_angle_point=”50″ separator_bottom_type=”none” separator_bottom_height=”50px” separator_bottom_angle_point=”50″ style=”margin: 0px;padding: 0%;”][cs_row inner_container=”true” marginless_columns=”false” style=”margin: 0px auto;padding: 0px;”][cs_column fade=”false” fade_animation=”in” fade_animation_offset=”45px” fade_duration=”750″ type=”1/1″ style=”padding: 0px;”][x_custom_headline level=”h3″ looks_like=”h3″ accent=”true” class=”cs-ta-left r7 mtn” style=”color: hsl(0, 0%, 0%);font-weight: 500;”]Automatic Updates: The Stuff we handle so you don’t have to[/x_custom_headline][cs_text class=”cs-ta-justify”]With a normal self-hosted WordPress website, keeping WordPress, your theme, and your plugins updated and working properly is a lot of work and can be a source of big headaches. However, a FormulaWP-powered WordPress website is far from normal. One of the most important advantages, albeit not the sexiest, of building your website on the FormulaWP platform is that we handle all of the updates for WordPress core, all updates for your theme, all updates for the integrated extensions and premium included plugins, and we can help with the updates for any additional plugins that you choose to install yourself (with some limitations).

All of this is done in the background on a weekly schedule in coordination with our hosting partners at WP Engine and our theme partners at Themeco. We only perform updates after proper testing has been performed. And in the rare event that an update of WordPress, the theme, an extension or a plugin causes a conflict, or in some way breaks your site, we can roll back your site to a version prior to the update in a matter of minutes. All this means you can keep calm and carry on focusing on building your business instead of worrying about the basic maintenance and upkeep of your website.[/cs_text][/cs_column][/cs_row][cs_row inner_container=”true” marginless_columns=”false” style=”margin: 0px auto;padding: 0px 0px 0px 20px;”][cs_column fade=”false” fade_animation=”in” fade_animation_offset=”45px” fade_duration=”750″ type=”1/1″ style=”padding: 0px;”][x_custom_headline level=”h4″ looks_like=”h5″ accent=”false” class=”cs-ta-left r7 mtn” style=”color: hsl(0, 0%, 0%);font-weight: 500;”]WordPress Core[/x_custom_headline][cs_text class=”cs-ta-justify”]The folks at Automattic, builders of WordPress, are constantly improving what is already the world’s best and most popular CMS (content management system). They regularly release updates to the WordPress core several times each year. When these updates are released, FormulaWP and our hosting partners at WP Engine conduct extensive testing to ensure no major conflicts are occurring before we update our customers’ websites on the FormulaWP platform.

However, you should be aware of the inherent limitations to our testing. We only test the WordPress core updates for how they affect the Pro Theme, the included Extensions, and the included Premium Plugins. Because the WordPress eco-system includes literally hundreds of thousands of third-party plugins, there is no way we can test for conflicts with all of these plugins. The more plugins you add to your site, especially those that are poorly supported and out of date, the higher the potential that your website will suffer from conflicts with newly released updates to the WordPress core. For this reason, we strongly recommend that you limit the number of third-party plugins you add to your site to the bare minimum, and that you search out the most popular and best supported plugins whenever possible to reduce your chances for conflicts.[/cs_text][/cs_column][/cs_row][cs_row inner_container=”true” marginless_columns=”false” style=”margin: 0px auto;padding: 0px 0px 0px 20px;”][cs_column fade=”false” fade_animation=”in” fade_animation_offset=”45px” fade_duration=”750″ type=”1/1″ style=”padding: 0px;”][x_custom_headline level=”h4″ looks_like=”h5″ accent=”false” class=”cs-ta-left r7 mtn” style=”color: hsl(0, 0%, 0%);font-weight: 500;”]Pro Theme Updates[/x_custom_headline][cs_text class=”cs-ta-justify”]Similar to the WordPress core updates, our friends at Themeco, developers of our awesome Pro Theme, do several updates to the theme each year. Most of these updates are small updates to fix any bugs or conflicts that are found, to stay current with updates to the latest version of the WordPress core, and to maintain the integrations of the Extensions and Premium Plugins.

FormulaWP will perform these updates for you automatically once we’ve tested and confirmed its stability. If for some reason you don’t want us to make these automatic updates to the theme, you will need to contact FormulaWP customer support directly to opt-out. We strongly recommend that you DO NOT opt out of these automatic updates for the theme as the potential for conflicts increases as your theme and plugins become more out of date. However, you do have the option.[/cs_text][/cs_column][/cs_row][cs_row inner_container=”true” marginless_columns=”false” style=”margin: 0px auto;padding: 0px 0px 0px 20px;”][cs_column fade=”false” fade_animation=”in” fade_animation_offset=”45px” fade_duration=”750″ type=”1/1″ style=”padding: 0px;”][x_custom_headline level=”h4″ looks_like=”h5″ accent=”false” class=”cs-ta-left r7 mtn” style=”color: hsl(0, 0%, 0%);font-weight: 500;”]Extensions & Integrated Premium Plugin Updates[/x_custom_headline][cs_text class=”cs-ta-justify”]Similar to updates to the Pro Theme, we will make automatic updates to all Extensions and the premium included plugins as they become available. This includes renewing any applicable annual licenses.

Most of these updates are done to stay current with the latest version of the WordPress Core and to address any bugs the developers discover in their plugin.

Please be aware that many third-party premium plugins require a current software license in order to perform updates. If you haven’t registered a software license or your license is expired, these automatic updates will fail.[/cs_text][/cs_column][/cs_row][/cs_section][cs_section parallax=”false” separator_top_type=”none” separator_top_height=”50px” separator_top_angle_point=”50″ separator_bottom_type=”none” separator_bottom_height=”50px” separator_bottom_angle_point=”50″ style=”margin: 0px;padding: 45px 0px;”][cs_row inner_container=”true” marginless_columns=”false” style=”margin: 0px auto;padding: 0px;”][cs_column fade=”false” fade_animation=”in” fade_animation_offset=”45px” fade_duration=”750″ type=”1/1″ style=”padding: 0px;”][x_button shape=”rounded” size=”mini” block=”false” circle=”false” icon_only=”false” href=”/help/docs/” title=”Help Docs Glossary” target=”” info=”none” info_place=”top” info_trigger=”hover” info_content=””][x_icon type=”chevron-left” class=”mvn mln mrs”]Back to Help Docs Glossary[/x_button][/cs_column][/cs_row][/cs_section][cs_responsive_text selector=”.r14″ compression=”0.5″ min_size=”60px” max_size=”180px”][cs_responsive_text selector=”.r13″ compression=”0.7″ min_size=”50px” max_size=”150px”][cs_responsive_text selector=”.r12″ compression=”0.8″ min_size=”40px” max_size=”120px”][cs_responsive_text selector=”.r11″ compression=”1.0″ min_size=”30px” max_size=”100px”][cs_responsive_text selector=”.r10″ compression=”1.3″ min_size=”24px” max_size=”80px”][cs_responsive_text selector=”.r9″ compression=”1.6″ min_size=”20px” max_size=”64px”][cs_responsive_text selector=”.r8″ compression=”1.8″ min_size=”18px” max_size=”48px”][cs_responsive_text selector=”.r7″ compression=”2.0″ min_size=”16px” max_size=”36px”][cs_responsive_text selector=”.r6″ compression=”2.2″ min_size=”15px” max_size=”32px”][cs_responsive_text selector=”.r5″ compression=”2.2″ min_size=”14px” max_size=”28px”][cs_responsive_text selector=”.r4″ compression=”2.2″ min_size=”13px” max_size=”24px”][cs_responsive_text selector=”.r3″ compression=”2.2″ min_size=”12px” max_size=”20px”][cs_responsive_text selector=”.r2″ compression=”2.2″ min_size=”11px” max_size=”16px”][cs_responsive_text selector=”.r1″ compression=”2.2″ min_size=”10px” max_size=”14px”][/cs_content]
